| Congratulations, you've just reached the official
Garry Bushell website. |
London Calling!
HERE you will find all the Bushell your heart desires. There's Campaign Corner,
the best of Garry’s Goofs, and the Bushell Babes in all their bountiful glory. Bushell On The Box can now be found in the Daily Star Sunday, and, until recently, as a fruity segment on Nuts TV. Those of you kind enough to take an interest in my writing will be pleased to know that 'The World According To Garry Bushell' is out in October. You can pre-order it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/World-According-Garry-Bushell/dp/1844546179/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207575615&sr=1-4. ‘Your Generation’, my book on British Youth Cults 1976 – 1985, is currently on hold but should finally be published in 2009. (This book was part-serialised in Sounds twenty-odd years ago and
tells the story of 2-Tone, New Mod, punk, the New Romantics, Crass, Oi etc.
Click on ‘The Story Of Oi’ for a taster – an in-depth retrospective look at
the influential British Streetpunk scene of the late '70s. ‘Mod Squad’ reproduces
a couple of articles I wrote back in 1979 on the Mod renewal. If I ever get
five minutes I'll add memories of my time on the road with the 2-Tone bands
and the NWOBHM too.)
- The Gonads' England ep is out now as an iTunes down-load. The three songs are the haunting ‘England, My Land’ by the Gonads featuring Sarah Vezmar; ‘Line In The Sand’ (featuring Kid Punk) and ‘What’s The Story? England’s Glory.’ Here's the link http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?i=275442576&id=275442571&s=143444

Connett, the Usual Suspects, The Torrents, Rhoda Dakar, Jack Viper and much more. Guests are Rhoda Dakar and Dave Cairns (ex-Secret Affair). - What does Bushell stand for? The Oxford English Dictionary provides
these handy definitions:
bushel, n, a measure of capacity for corn,
fruit, liquids, etc. (Brit, 8 gallons; US, 64 US pints).
bushell, v, 1) to agitate, titillate, question,
provoke, amuse, mock, taunt, quip or rant. 2) to puncture the
pompous. 3) to actively promote loud and raucous guitar and ska-based
music (see racket) or to gonad. 4) to advocate patriotic liberation – an
English parliament for English voters in an independent UK. 5)
to oppose the European Union, Blairism, big government, over-taxation
and all forms of bureaucracy and liberal self-loathing. 6) to
celebrate the female form in all its glory. 7) to imbibe strong
ales. 8) to reject the bourgeois and denigrate the mindlessly
fashionable. 9) to be proud of working class origins and achievements.
10) to fight for the right of British people to treasure and
build on our culture, customs, history and traditions - including
self-rule and self-preservation.
Bushell, n, (archaic) a man who is irresistible
to women; this usage only found in myth and legend.
bushfire, n, a fire in a forest, scrub or beard
often spreading widely.
Bushell On The Box stands proudly on its reputation for cutting
up rough, making a fuss, having a laugh, having a say, flying the
flag, and generally pissing on the electric fence of destiny.
Calling all unsigned bands. If you want me to play your songs on the Total Rock podcast send them on CD (first generation copies only please) to Garry Bushell c/o Garry Bushell c/o Total Rock, 1 Denmark Place, London WC2H 8NL, England, UK, and mark the package 'personal'.
